There are days we long for and remember them after the sun sets. Then there are days we long for and when the sun sets, we are back to longing for other like that. Such days is the 12th of July 2026. The day started with your favourite group, Vollta.org meeting at Kencom before proceeding to Kahawa West. Residents of Thika Road opted to travel to West without having to deal with the tussle of town traffic. We all gathered at Grace Community Children`s Home.

At Grace Community Home we got welcomed by lively children. From the age of a couple of months to teens. Masaa ya kuboeka labda ungejibebea. “Niaje auntie, unaitwa nani?” This phrase got thrown around by the Grace Home Gentlemen in no time. I do not know about other times but on this one, they were in for a fun moment as we had serial good vibes Gen Zs. The visit was a partnership between vollta.org and Nuru Charity Foundation, our all-times God`s Work Partners.

It goes without saying the kitchen was full of spinning activities. The Chapos were almost done with and you`d spot the chefs walking around with specimen samples getting reviews. Once everything was set, each member of Nuru and Vollta got paired with a child and we all lined up to serve with the kids whom we`d later feed as we answered a million of their questions.

With our visits, the meals are just a prerequisite to the core business. We were graced to have a hype man with us. As soon as the sound system was in place a threat was thrown in the air,” Sasa kila mtu lazima asimame tudance!”. It was at this time that the hype man knew his threat was a cat’s roar at lions. Everyone gave him a look smiling all wondering,” Kwani sisi hudooo??” What went on got bypassers joining in. Ilikuwa mbayaaa. I am guessing the hype man got a tough time negotiating for his pay as there had been no crowd to hype. Yeye ndo alikuwa anaskiza ground!

Once the kitchen committee delivers there can be no rest for the body. After the dances, that never really seized, we had a variety of games. There was even one where they competed to munch a loaf of bread. The referee made a mistake of providing a soda to go with the loaf. One had two minutes to finish what they had. Only wrappers got recovered on the ninetieth second. As the saying goes,” Sherehe bila keki ni chama.” We had a cake cutting ceremony and sealed the day with a prayer for people to be free to leave. That was a day full of Grace, Community, with the Children that made everyone feel at Home.
